Pucklechurch parish council along with its Ward Councillors would love to see better road crossing options and has tried to pursue many different options. Whilst the council fully supports any review, to date all suggestions have hit barriers.

The current position appears to be as follows:

Successes:
A raised speed table was successfully installed on Westerleigh Road.

On implementation list and not yet selected:
  • Apr-2013 KF101 Local Resident & MP Speed table north of Homefield Rd junction & speed table outside Post Office - £93,500 – (currently 18th)
  • Dec 2015 KF136 - Parish Council - Feltham Road - 40mph speed limit extension to Little Nannies Café, BS16 9SJ - £20,000 – (currently 38th)

On investigation list:
  • KF204 Speed Limit change to 30mph B4465 Shortwood Rd, Pucklechurch (currently 127th)

Proposals not accepted:
  • Any potential crossing on Shortwood Road near the bungalows to ease access to the doctors etc has been deemed not feasible by South Gloucestershire Council due to engineering issues with the camber/height issues. This has not changed.
  • Speeding issues on Abson Road. Despite direct discussions with Highways involving the Ward Councillors apparently nothing can be done

The parish council will continue to pursue all potential avenues to improve crossings. As part of the planning process the parish council will be pushing for traffic mitigation measures and safe crossings associated with any proposed new developments in the parish but ultimately any decisions lie with South Gloucestershire Council as the Highway authority.

Sadly there are no easy answers.

Road Traffic survey undertaken by South Gloucestershire Council on Parkfield Road

South Gloucestershire Council recently undertook a survey of traffic speed and volume data from Parkfield Road at the parish council’s request. The results are published below. The Parish Council continues to work with South Gloucestershire Council over speeding and safety concerns.
